What is a firebreak?

A firebreak is a strip of land that has been cleared of vegetation and all flammable material. This strip or track runs around, or as close to,  the inside boundary of your property and is intended to minimise the spread of bushfires.


A firebreak's other purpose is to provide an unobstructed safe line of access to your property for emergency vehicles during the event of a bushfire.


While it is an effective component of bushfire prevention, a firebreak is only one part of the proverbial puzzle in protecting your property or the potential loss of livestock, structures and worldly possessions.
