We've summarised the council's fire safety requirements to help you make sure your property ticks all the boxes the first time around. These guidelines are current as of September 2023, but rules can change, so it's a good idea to check the council's website for the most up-to-date info. Fire Breaks

Create a 3x4 metre dirt path all around your land's border. Half a metre each side of this is to be slashed. Make sure there are no dead ends.

Driveways

Driveways and access ways to buildings to be maintained in the same manner as firebreaks

Grass Control

Cut the grass to under 5cm. Get rid of the clippings.

Asset-Protection Zone

Have a 20-metre cleared area around your buildings. Keep it free from stuff that burns easily.

Clean your gutters, roofs, and walls of anything flammable.

Within this 20-metre zone, the flammable material should weigh less than 2 tonnes per hectare.

Firebreaks must be sorted out before December 1st and maintained until May 31st every year.
