We've summarised the council's fire safety requirements to help you make sure your property ticks all the boxes the first time around. These guidelines are current as of September 2023, but rules can change, so it's a good idea to check the council's website for the most up-to-date info. Fire Breaks

Create a 3m wide dirt path all around and as closely as possible to the inside of your property's boundary with a 4m verticle clearance.  Make sure there are no dead ends. Ensure all driveways and access ways to buildings also have the 3x4m clearance.

3m wide maintained, reticulated living lawns that are kept completely green are permitted in conjunction with or in place of a fire break 

Additional Works

Clean your gutters, roofs, and walls of anything flammable.

Trim any tall trees from the bottom up to 2 metres.

Remove fire fuel

Remove leaves, sticks, dead shrubs and dead trees 

Grass Control

Cut grass and weeds if not being grazed by livestock and remove clippings

Firebreaks must be sorted out before December 1st and maintained until May 31st every year.
